Graeme BOTT: An approach and vision from the other side of the world.
New Zealander (Kiwi), born in Auckland. After obtaining my Bachelor's degree in Viticulture-Oenology, I worked in different wineries in New Zealand within the Hawke's Bay area and on Waiheke Island.
Passionate about French wines and particularly Syrah, I wanted to discover the birthplace and original vineyards where this variety was first planted. This journey is how I arrived in CÔTE-RÔTIE at Stephane Ogier. His artistic approach allowed me to learn to express the purity of the terroir and it was a real revelation.
Always thirsty to learn I continued to travel around the world and I stopped to work in Australia with Tim Kirk at his winery Clonakilla. Not only did Tim teach me about precision and details in winemaking, he also impressed on me the need to respect the work done in the vineyard.
For three years I travelled between the northern hemisphere and the southern hemisphere sometimes doing three harvests a year before I finally stopped in Ampuis where I became winemaker at Stéphane Ogier’s for 5 years, before embarking on our own adventure.
Julie BOTT: Back in her native region after an extraordinary journey.
I had the chance to grow up in this beautiful region of the Northern Rhone Valley, in the middle of its steep hillsides. Not coming from a winemaking family, I never dared to think one day that it would be possible to create a domaine from scratch.
After my studies of International Trade and different experiences in the United States and France, I had a need for a return to my roots. I moved back to live in Condrieu and of course, I turned to wine.
It is from working in CÔTE-RÔTIE that I gained my experience in wine. I worked for 7 years at Stéphane Ogier where I became sales manager. During all these years my passion has only intensified - I lived, thought and read wine. Thanks to numerous tastings in France and abroad, I have had the chance to meet and listen to many winemakers who generously shared their knowledge and experiences. With Graeme, I deepened my knowledge of viticulture and winemaking.
I can say that today I am finally in my element, I swapped my office for the vines.
Both fueled by the same passion, we wanted to combine our different experiences and knowledge. Our complementary skills allow us today to lead our domaine in what we believe is the best possible way, however beyond a professional project, this is most of all a lifestyle choice.
