Planting of cinsaut and grenache
We have on the estate two parcels of land to replant, on the “terroir” with volcanic basalt. We had to pull out the old vines 7 years ago, so the soil is now well rested.
We’ve decided to plant two red varieties to complement our range; cinsaut and grenache noir. Cinsaut is a new variety for us! It’ll be planted on a parcel of 0,5 hectares, and the grenache on 0.25 hectares.
These two parcels will be certified organic from the outset as they are part of our estate and are certified as such even when fallow.
“Selection masssale” vines
We have ordered the vines from a specialist vine nursery, Bérillon, which prepares all plants to order and only by “selection massale”.
This process involves the careful selection of cuttings from other vineyards and grafting onto rootstock, thus the vines are non-cloned.
The fruit from such non-cloned vines gives a greater complexity to the wine. In addition, together with our careful care of our vines and the soil, such plants are more resistant to diseases and die-back.
Our aim is to maintain a sustainable, long-lasting vineyard.
Before planting, we’ll be adding organic compost to improve the structure and life of the soil. The planting is programmed for this Spring. Afterwards, a lot of work is required to water the vines, remove the weeds by hoeing, knocking in a wooden post as a support for each vine...
