THE COMPANY

CHÂTEAU DE BEL

A pleasant environment in which to make and enjoy wine, in which to live and work, on the banks of the Dordogne, a human-scale company, a place where we greet each other in the morning to say hello, a place which we respect and esteem nature and each other. We would like to keep it this way.

A DIVERSIFIED VINEYARD

  • 6 hectares in the appellation Bordeaux Supérieur (soon 8 hectares) with 4 to 5 batches depending on vintages: One Bordeaux rosé, one Bordeaux Rouge, 2 Bordeaux Supérieur and one Vin de France 100% Cabernet Franc (Bel Franc)

  • 0.7 hectare in Pomerol: Clos du Canton des Ormeaux

  • 1.6 hectare appellation Montagne St Emilion with 2-3 batches, depending on the vintage: Château Hautes Graves, Achille and a new wine made with carbonic maceration

  • Château de Bel also owns a small trading company through which it buys grape and wine for winemaking. This company produces several wines: Cuvées "Échappée Bel" red and white wine, and "Bel en Blanc" which is a partnership with Julien Ditté to produce the "Amistat" wine label in Roussillon

RESPECTING NATURE IN THE CELLAR AND IN THE VINEYARD

Since 2005 we implemented a responsible farming method that uses no pesticides in the entire vineyard and is certified organic farming on Pomerol appelation only. Some vintages were grown organically without having been officially certified as organic.

Cellar work respects the raw material (grapes) giving wines fruitiness and elegant tannins. Bordeaux wines are generally fermented in tanks and some are matured in oak barrels for one year. Pomerol and Montagne Saint-Emilion are vinified by hand on a very small scale, in open barrels of 500 liters, with manual “pigeage” and matured for 2 years in the same barrels. These are genuine “garage wines”.

SELECTIVE DISTRIBUTION

The Château de Bel has a rather qualitative image in the world of small Chateaux of Bordeaux thanks to distribution in prestigious institutions (George V, Enrico Bernardo restaurants world's best sommelier, Mama's shelter, ROB in Brussels ... ) and a well-rounded Press review particularly in the “Revue des Vins de France” magazine and it’s guide for best french wines, as well as frequent star ratings in the “Guide Hachette des Vins”.

A TOUCH OF ORIGINALITY

Château de Bel is synonymous with passion, creativity and imagination for the creation of very unusual wines such as:

  • The "Franc de Bel": 100% Cabernet Franc assembled over several vintages
  • The " Bel en Blanc" 100% Muscadelle – a somewhat forgotten original Bordeaux grape variety - matured for 26 months
  • The recent planting of Chenin Blanc, superb emblematic grape of the Loire, but outlawed in Bordeaux appellation
  • A Malbec-based wine batch is coming-soon
