THE PROJECT
This project, in time, will let Patrick Duler, mature and refine 500 hams per year and to age in barrel the equivalent of 12,000 bottles every year.
The vines
With the help of his vigneron fiends, Patrick Duler leads this innovative project with Francis Laffargue, director of the local Experimental Farm, and Elisabeth Besnard, oenologist with a Ph.D. in soil science.
The organic vineyard is co-planted with truffle oak trees and wheat; the wheat acts like a semi-wild crop within the vineyard. The idea behind this revolutionary idea is to limit the illness in the vineyard and to maintain the “zero treatment” philosophy like the rest of the estate.
The terroir
The vines are planted on marl-limestone from the Oligocene period, which characterize one of the best terroirs in the Cahors appellation. The 8th terrace.
The vines sit atop of the Quercy Blanc plateau, south/south-east orientation, 250-300 m above sea level, well drained marl and limestone soils and the virtual absence of any other vines nearby in this wooded landscape, makes this an exceptional spot for growing vines.
The wines
The wines will come from 2 plots planted in 2014:
One of the plots is planted with 17 white varieties: Mauzac, Len de L’el, Chardonnay, Chenin, Ugni blanc, Terret blanc, Vermentino, Montils, Petit Manseng, Macabeu, Clairette, Sauvignon blanc, Viognier...
The second plot is planted with 14 red varieties: Cot (Malbec), Syrah, Cinsaut, Abouriou, Marselan, Niellucio, Gamay, Pinot noir, Merlot, Grenache noir, Carcagolo noir, Cabernet Sauvignon...
The aim is to make exceptional wines which showcase the unique terroir and the different vintage every year.
